Treading The Golden Mean

As the lens rolls out today to all its viewers and readers across the world it’s time for us to reaffirm our commitment and faith in our foundational values The lens is committed to constitutional and democratic values and believes in upholding public interest and accountability as our governing principle. We realize that we live in difficult times. Technology, economy and concomitantly politics are undergoing rapid and fundamental changes. This has made uncertainty the most immediate lived experience of the people and this uncertainty drives an information hunger so as to be able to make a sense of our surroundings and self Social Media has also altered our perception and reality both. Information is now almost free but it has led to more chaos around us. Growing extremism and socioeconomic inequities have added to our chaos.
It is therefore imperative for any institution aiming to inform and educate the people to find the golden mean avoiding the twin dangers of chaos and trivialization. Monopolizing of information has been the primary means of subjugation of people and today this is through monopolizing meaning and narratives. Trivializing leads to Blurring of backgrounds and builds narratives while chaos of indiscriminate information confounds reality and creates absurdity.
We in the lens are aware of the tightrope we have to walk. Truth is our only creed and we have nothing else to fall back on either. Common sense and moral sense are the primary lenses we wish to establish. But above all it is the conversation and discourse between us, continuous and seamless, which protects and supports our world. We will try to create, retain and reclaim this space for our present and future alike.
