The Ahmedabad plane crash is most unfortunate and tragic. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has perhaps crashed for the first time in a commercial service. It was perhaps the most improbable crash with the best top end plane with built in systems to handle engine failures and weather conditions, flown by very experienced pilots on a clear sunny day and it crashed immediately after take off, that too into a medical college hostel. While we’re not sure of the actual casualties or the cause of the crash and they would be known only gradually, we can only assume that there might not be any survivors from among those on board and many others around the crash. The numbers could be higher than imagined. As technology has advanced and in the age of AI machine faults should not go undetected, this is definitely a challenge for the aviation industry. While we have had autopilot technologies for decades now, the machine scanning for faults can definitely improve. The hope the administration is well equipped and trained to deal with such disasters and it displays empathy and transparency with the anxious relatives and local residents around the site. Any attempt to conceal information at this stage would only add to the distress of the already anxious friends and family.
