New Delhi . The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has extended its solidarity to the Cuban people, who are facing a crisis due to the US blockade. A CPI(M) delegation left New Delhi early Sunday morning for Cuba, carrying various forms of assistance, including life-saving medicines.
The delegation will take medicines collected by the CPI(M) and CPI, including medicines required for the treatment of cancer and heart-related illnesses.
The visit is intended to provide support to Cuba, which is facing a humanitarian crisis as a result of the US blockade imposed in violation of international norms. The visit is also part of the declaration of solidarity with the Cuban people in their opposition to the US blockade.
The delegation will participate in the Fidel Castro Centenary Colloquium, being held from August 10 to 13. It will also visit a hospital specializing in cardiac treatment and a children’s cancer treatment centre.
The delegation will further visit worker and peasant cooperatives, the Fidel Castro Center, the Che Guevara Center, and historical sites associated with the Cuban Revolution.
The delegation comprises Viju Krishnan, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member; P. K. Sreemathy, CPI(M) Central Committee member; Meenakshi Sundaram, CPI(M) Karnataka State Secretariat member; Dharmaraj Mahapatra, CPI(M) Chhattisgarh State Secretariat member; N. Chandran, CPI(M) Kerala State Committee member; B. Venkat, member of the Agricultural Sub-Committee; and Anil S. S., member of the Central Trade Union Fraction.
The delegation is scheduled to return on August 19.
