The enforcement directorate on Tuesday has filed its first charge sheet in the national herald case of 2012. The charge sheet implicates top Congress leaders both Rahul and Sonia Gandhi and their close aides Sam pitroda and Suman Dubey. The charge sheet has come late in the day but still fails to explain the charges to the public at large. The charges allege creating fake donations, rent and advertising revenues which is presented as proceeds of crime. However it is still not clear as who is the victim and who is the beneficiary. This is a very poor show by the ED for Over 12 years of investigation Such case involve primarily documentary evidence and the ED taking over 12 years to collect documentary evidence is not a good reflection on its competence. Looking at the high political stakes involved, ED needs to present its best foot forward in the case, which could otherwise irreparably damage the credibility and reputation of ED which is already the most controversial agency in the country. With a conviction rate of 2% and 95% of its political cases filed against opposition leaders it hasn’t appealed to the imagination of the people. It is imperative that the agency completes the investigation quickly and the legal process is also completed swiftly. It would help if the interested parties can come up with a detailed presentation of their side for the public. It’s strange that no media organization has carried a detailed report on this issue. Such uncertainty about top political leaders hampers the political discourse in the country. Therefore it is necessary to inform the public better on the case
