The Israeli attack on Iran’s alleged nuclear facilities is in violation of international law and norms. Over hundred sites were targeted including residential quarters. Top generals and retired scientists were assassinated by bombing their homes. Israeli impunity is not reassuring the world that their sovereignty would be respected by powerful militaries. Such uncertainty would encourage an arms race in larger countries and force the smaller nations to join a pole, much like the Cold War period. With growing technology , the world is far more interdependent and such polarization could make the world extremely vulnerable, entire economies may be crippled by any future crisis The Iranian nuclear program has been an independent and indigenous project not involving any proliferation. Such programs cannot be externally regulated beyond sanctions and need to be integrated diplomatically. That the attack took place within 24 hours of iaea reports and two days before the scheduled meeting for jcpoa, hints at an attempt to derail the peaceful nuclear deal. This has closed all avenues for peaceful nuclear talks and would only strengthen Iranian nuclear weapons program. The Islamist regime under the grand ayatollah was facing severe popular resentment especially from the youth. These attacks would strengthen their position and undermine the moderates trying to integrate Iran with the larger international community. This is definitely a dangerous assault on world peace and stability.
