It’s been more than a week since the BJP won a landslide two-third victory in the Delhi Assembly elections yet there is still no sign of any government formation nor is there any news of political activity. The media is overly cautious when it comes to speculating about the BJP especially its top leadership. The candidates also have not made any demand or demonstrable activities so as not to invite the displeasure of the leadership. Under the garb of discipline this is reflective of an authoritarian party system. But it’s also true that dwarfed politicians are often devoid of imagination and Delhi is in a serious need for an imaginative leadership. It has suffered enormously due to war of attrition between the central government and the AAP government. Its landscape has turned into an ugly maze of unplanned illegal constructions, pollution levels beyond measurement and stressed infrastructure. While Delhi has offloaded AAP as it could no longer carry on with the situation the new government would have to imaginative enough to maintain the social sector initiatives and kick start capital projects also.
